Build your own mechanical watch and discover the fascinating world of Swiss watchmaking: during the one-day “Watchmaker for a Day” workshop at RB Baumgartner Uhren in Aarberg, you will experience the art of watchmaking up close.

Under the expert and patient guidance of Reto Baumgartner, watchmaker and owner, you will be equipped with tweezers and a precision magnifying glass to dismantle and then reassemble a practice movement. You will then have a go at making your own watch. You choose your model from the range and assemble it piece by piece until the final touch brings your watch to life and it starts ticking.

Equipped with tweezers and a precision loupe, you will begin the morning by working on a practice movement. You will disassemble a mechanical hand-wound movement, get to know its individual components and discover how they work together. The movement is then reassembled step by step. It is not simply about the technical aspects, but above all about understanding the fascinating precision behind a mechanical watch.

After a shared lunch, included in the workshop price, the afternoon becomes personal: you choose your favourite model from the RB Baumgartner collection and build your own watch, piece by piece. With the patient guidance of Reto Baumgartner, you will assemble the individual components until the final step is completed – and your watch starts ticking.

It is a truly special moment: from numerous individual components, each crafted with exceptional precision, your personal watch has come to life. A watch you have not simply purchased, but assembled yourself – giving you the opportunity to experience a piece of Swiss watchmaking craftsmanship from the inside.

As the workshop is offered as an exclusive private experience for just one or two participants, Reto Baumgartner will be personally by your side throughout the entire day. Every step is carefully explained and guided. This gives you plenty of time to ask questions, understand how the different components work together and get hands-on experience yourself.

A day to remember

The workshop offers far more than an introduction to the fundamentals of watchmaking. You will gain a direct insight into the complex technology of a mechanical watch and develop a new appreciation for the precision, patience and passion for craftsmanship that go into creating a high-quality timepiece.

And at the end of the day, you will leave not only with a deeper understanding of watchmaking, but with your very own watch. A personal timepiece that will accompany you from then on and, every time you look at its dial, remind you of this special day at the Aarberg watchmaking atelier.

The workshop is suitable for anyone with a passion for mechanical watches, watchmaking and Swiss craftsmanship – regardless of whether you have any previous knowledge or experience. The workshop can be conducted in German, French or English.

CHF 750.– per person
CHF 1’000.– for two people

The workshop price does not include the price of the selected watch. Lunch is included in the workshop price. The workshop is also available as a gift voucher.

Your watch of choice

In principle, all watch models from the RB Baumgartner collection can be assembled as part of the workshop. The HORLOGERIE collection and the DOM model are excluded.
