Reto Baumgartner has been collecting watches for many years. Over time he has developed a special passion for mechanical watches. One question has always haunted him: How exactly does the mechanical timepiece work?
Training as Watchmaker
Reto Baumgartner got his first insight into mechanical timepieces using old clock movements. Inspired by technology and precision, he chose to train as a watchmaker. Reto Baumgartner attended a basic course at the training centre for adults in the Bernese Jura town of Tramelan. Then he consolidated his knowledge at various institutes (WOSTEP Foundation in Neuchâtel, Biel Foundation Battenberg, CIP in Tramelan). In this way he honed his craft to become a professional watchmaker.
Taking the Plunge to Independence
In 2015, Reto Baumgartner decided to become self-employed. Under the brand “RB Baumgartner”, he specialises in the construction of individually assembled watches and the construction of watches in small series. In the same year, he opened his watchmaking workshop in Aarberg (Canton of Bern). Reto Baumgartner gave up his previous job as chief financial officer (CFO) of a railway company in mid 2016. He has since focused exclusively on his passion – the construction of mechanical watches for men and women.
